Maintaining Your Northlake Ram 3500.

It's a monster, your new  Northlake Ram 3500. Whether you have the standard rear wheel or dually arrangement, you are running the best of the best. But Ram 3500 ownership is not a set it and forget it proposition. Just as you'd expect it to fire up first time, every time, your Ram expects to be properly cared for, as well. We've already done some of the homework for you. Following are just a few suggestions of how to properly maintain your new investment.

Tastes Vary: The Ram 3500 is available in Regular, Crew and Mega Cab configurations with different beds and engine options. Whether you have selected the 5.7-liter 383-horsepower Hemi engine, the 6.4-liter 410-horsepower Hemi engine, or the big unnh(!) that comes from the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel producing 930 lb-ft of torque (when ordered with Ram's heavy duty six-speed automatic transmission) you will be driving a vehicle that puts the "Truck" in Work Truck. For detailed information, please consult your Ram 3500 Owner's Manual.

Oil and Filters: If food were the fuel for the Ram 3500, Oil would be the blood. Circulating through the engine, it helps to lubricate the inner workings of your  Northlake Ram 3500. With mission critical needs causing you to rely on your truck to be ready for everything, we think your Ram deserves a high quality Mopar-Approved Conventional or Synthetic Motor Oil. Every Ram truck is equipped with an automatic Oil Change Indicator System to alert you when it's time to change. Smart sensors monitor your Ram's workload to suggest you change the oil sooner than later. That could be as few as 3,500- or as many as 7,500 miles. Your Napleton Northlake Ram Service Advisor will suggest changing it more frequently if you do a lot of towing or participate in extreme-duty usage. But as stated in the Ram 3500 Owner's Manual, under no circumstances should the oil change interval exceed 8,000 miles, or 12 months.

Other Fluids: Oil isn't the only critical fluid inside your Ram Truck. Brake Fluid, Wiper Fluid, Coolant, Power Steering Fluid, Transmission Fluid, and others are all doing their part to make sure your Ram Diesel or Conventional engine is operating at peak efficiency for many years of service. Occasionally, the fluids evaporate, or just get used up as they normally would. Contact your Northlake Service Advisor to get your fluids topped off. They will be happy to see you!

Filtration: To your Northlake Ram 3500, breathing is just as crucial as it is to all of us. These precision-built Ram Hemi or Cummins Diesel engines rely on a Mopar-approved air filter to weed out debris and dirt particles before they have a chance to enter your engine. After approximately 30,000 miles, the filter will eventually wear out, but don't sweat! Your  Northlake Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep Service Department will stock the correct filter for all your Ram needs.

Spark Plugs: Your Hemi-powered Northlake Ram 3500 trucks feature long-life spark plugs that are good for 100,000 miles. They are virtually care-free, requiring no service during that time period. If your Ram 3500 is Diesel-equipped, fear not! The Diesel does not utilize spark plugs at all! Your Northlake Ram Service Department can offer Mopar-Approved replacement plugs if needed. Your Ram Truck Owner's Manual and Northlake CDJR Service Advisor can also offer more extensive details.

All-Wheel-Alignment: If your Ram 3500's tires are properly inflated, yet you find yourself drifting right or left while supposedly driving in a straight line, it is a clear sign that it might be in need of an alignment. If your Ram dives left or right while braking, it definitely needs one! In addition to feeling that pull in either direction, it can also cause your Ram Truck tires to wear out quickly. Talk about compounding the problem. Properly aligned, your Ram Truck should get equal tire wear at all four corners. A Napleton Pro Tip: Always rotate and balance your tires before settling down for an alignment. That way, tire wear should equalize at all four corners of your Ram 3500. Finally, consult your owner's manual and your Northlake Service Advisor for more information.

Windshield Wipers: Windshield wipers are vital to keeping the view clear up ahead. Eventually they get older, brittle, hard, cracked, and  worn down thereby threatening their functionality. Use your Ram 3500 in the heat and it will likely cut their effective life in half. But don't sweat it! Your Northlake CDJR service department stocks the proper wipers for your Ram 3500 for continued top performance. A Napleton Pro Tip: When the wipers streak, spots or squeak, that's a good indication it's time for replacement.

Finally: Fresh off the Time's best seller list is our Ram 3500 Owners Manual! That's right! Regardless of your wheel configuration, your Ram 3500 manual will offer serious tips and advice for owners of the Ram 3500 Pickup truck. In addition to telling you how your Ram truck works, it offers tips that include things that will save you money in the long run. Your Northlake Ram, Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep service advisors are eager to offer you professional service that will keep your Ram 3500 running like new. Call for more information today

Transmission Maintenance: Equipped with a modern automatic or manual transmission, your Ram 3500 truck can drive, haul or tow through nearly every situation.  Since they are sealed units, there thankfully won't be much in the way of maintenance to be performed until approximately 120,000 miles. The exception would be if you subject your  Ram 3500 to extreme duty, hauling heavy loads or driving long distances on the highway. In cases like that, it couldn't hurt to change the transmission fluid as frequently as every 60,000 miles. Talk with your Northlake Service Advisor or consult your Ram 3500 Owner's Manual for more details. Your transfer case-equipped Ram has more going on inside, so please consider changing the transfer case fluid with that same schedule: 60,000 miles for severe usage, 120,000 for standard usage.

Rotors, Pads and More: Brakes Pads and Rotors are critical pieces to the well-being of you and your Northlake Ram 3500 truck. Whether single or dually-equipped, they restore order to a jaunt behind the wheel, letting you control and stop the Ram where you need it to. Inspect them every time you get your oil changed so you can be guaranteed they are there when you need them. (What a concept!) Driving in a less than aggressive manner also helps, making sure they last substantially longer than a driver who slams the brakes when things get a little close, up ahead. As always, your mileage may vary. Contact your  Northlake Ram Service Advisor, who will be happy to inspect the pads and rotors during your next oil change.
