Maintaining Your Northlake Ram ProMaster City.

Your new Northlake Ram ProMaster City is the perfect urban solution. Classified as a mid-sized cargo van, it provides best-in-class cargo volume at 131.7-cubic feet, and a 178-horsepower 2.4-liter Multi-Air engine that is perfect for hauling its nearly 1900-pound payload. Add to that a tiny turning radius, and it's clear to see why it's the new generation of City Truck from Ram. "Right-sized" from the first time you set eyes on it, it will be there to help you move your business, your family and your life to the next level. But it does require some care and maintenance in order to keep it running at peak performance. Here are a few tips on the proper maintenance of your new Ram ProMaster City.

One Engine, Many Trucks: Regardless of which configuration of ProMaster City you buy, all Ram ProMaster City vehicles are powered by FCA's famous 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir inline four-cylinder engine making 178-horsepower. The engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. Its care and needs are detailed inside the ProMaster City's Owner's Manual. For further details please contact your Northlake Ram Service Advisor.

Filtration: Your new  Northlake Ram ProMaster City truck's engine is like any other engine in that it requires air and fuel to operate. As a result, it needs to breathe freely. That's where a clean, Mopar-Approved air filter comes in.  Precision-built, your TigerShark engine will provide years of trouble free service, but you first need to provide it with some fresh air.
Yes, the engine is technically a living, breathing thing! The air filter is simply a device used to trap dirt and debris before it has a chance to enter the engine. The filters have an effectiveness that causes them to need changing every 30,000 miles or so. But chill! Your  Northlake Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep Service Department will stock the correct filter for all your Ram ProMaster City needs.

Oil and Filters: Oil and Oil Filters are critical to the smooth operation of your Napleton Northlake Ram ProMaster City cargo van. With your Ram ProMaster City likely being used under heavy duty circumstances, driving long distances, idling while making deliveries, it needs an oil that won't break down under stress. That's why your Napleton Ram Service Advisor recommends a high quality Mopar-Approved Conventional or Synthetic Motor Oil. Your ProMaster City is equipped with an Automatic Oil Change Indicator System which alerts you when it has determined your oil is due for a change. That could occur as soon as 3,500-miles under heavy loads or as long as 7,500 in other situations. But despite our best efforts, we all sometimes forget. Regardless of what the Indicator system says, the ProMaster City's Owner's Manual states that under no circumstances should the oil change interval exceed 10,000 miles or one year. The service advisors at Napleton Northlake Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep will also be happy to advise you.

Other Wet Things: In addition to Motor Oil, there are other fluids running around inside your  Ram ProMaster City. They include Transmission Fluid, Power Steering Fluid, Coolant, Brake Fluid, Wiper Fluid, and others. All are doing their part to make sure your ProMaster is operating at peak efficiency for many years of reliable service. Occasionally, they  need topping off. Contact your  Northlake Service Advisor to get your fluids topped off. They are always happy to see you!

Transmission Maintenance:  Your  Northlake Ram ProMaster is equipped with a sealed nine-speed automatic transmission unit that should be good for the life of the vehicle. Take care to periodically check the Automatic Transmission fluid to insure it is at the proper level. Once a month should be fine. If your ProMaster City is routinely subjected to more strenuous activities, check with your Northlake Service Advisor for further advice. Brake Pads, Rotors, Linings and More: Brakes Pads, Linings and Rotors are critical parts responsible for safely stopping your  Northlake Ram ProMaster City. They should be inspected every time you have your oil changed, so you are guaranteed they are there when you need them. (What a concept!) At the same time, have your Northlake Service Technician inspect the parking brake functions as well. Furthermore, and since we are all friends here and you know this already, aggressive driving tactics have a tendency to wear brake pads down faster than would normally happen.  As always, your mileage may vary. Contact your Northlake Ram Service Advisor, who will be happy to inspect the pads, linings, rotors and more during your next oil change.

Windshield Wipers: Stop and go traffic, hot city driving, and other factors will do their part to wear down a windshield wiper's durability and life expectancy. After they get older, hard, worn down, cracked and brittle, you are up the proverbial creek without a paddle. For that reason we think they should be replaced with a new pair every six months. Your Northlake CDJR service department stocks the proper wipers for your Ram ProMaster City for continued top performance. A Napleton Pro Tip: When the wipers streak, spots or squeak, that's a good indication it's time for replacement.Spark Plugs: Your MultiAir TigerShark engine is equipped with spark plugs that are rated for a 100,000 mile lifespan. Virtually care-free, they require no service during that time period. Your Napleton Northlake Ram Service Department can offer Mopar-Approved replacement plugs if needed. Your Ram Truck Owner's Manual and  Northlake CDJR Service Advisor can also offer more extensive details.

All-Wheel-Alignment: With proper inflation, your Northlake Ram ProMaster City should find itself going down the straight and narrow, as far as vehicle alignment is concerned. But what about the day you find yourself drifting right or left while supposedly driving in a straight line. That's a clear sign an alignment may be in order. The same thing, if your Ram ProMaster City dives left or right while braking. Such behavior, in addition to being annoying, can also lead to premature tire wear. Properly aligned, your Northlake Ram ProMaster City should get equal tire wear at all four corners. A Napleton Pro Tip: Always rotate and balance your tires before settling down for an alignment. That way, tire wear should equalize at all four corners of your ProMaster. Finally, consult your owner's manual and your Napleton Northlake Service Advisor for more information.

Once a month list: Under the heading of once a month should do it, your Northlake Ram ProMaster City's Owner's Manual suggests checking the engine oil level, the windshield washer fluid level, the tire pressure and to check for excessive tire wear. A quick inspection of coolant, and brake master cylinder fluid levels, as well as all interior and exterior lights will insure you are ready for a big road trip, or just a normal day's work. If after consulting your Owner's Manual and you still have questions, the service professionals at Northlake Ram Chrysler Jeep Dodge will be happy to help you further.
