Installing Jeep Wrangler Soft Top: What You'll Need

  • Right and Left side door rails
  • Right and left side rear door frames
  • Eight-door frame attachment Torx head screws (4-door)
  • Rear Retainers (2)
  • Soft Top Brackets (2)
If the Dual Top option was purchased, items come shipped with the vehicle.
If not, items are part of the soft top package.

Things to Remember When Installing Jeep Soft Top

  • Another person recommended for help
  • Make sure the rubber seals lay flat & are installed correctly to avoid water leaks
  • Don't over-tighten the screws, it will cause damage to them
  • Make sure the wire harness in the left rear corner is not tangled in the soft top bows before you lift the top

Steps: How to Install Soft Top on Jeep Wrangler

  1. Remove the hard top- Follow this guide on how to remove
  2. Install the front door rails and rear door frames (w/ 4-door model)
  3. Place the front roof rail in the rubber seal at the top of the windshield, line up the holes for the Torx head screws
  4. The frame bracket goes around the side of the rail then insert the screws from underneath
  5. Use the #40 Torx head driver to tighten the screws
  6. Insert the rear door frame pin into the hole on top of the body side (behind the rear door opening) and place the top of the door frame onto the rear of the front door rail
  7. Adjust and tighten the frame brackets just like the front door frames
  8. On the sport bar, remove the two trim pieces
  9. Take the #40 Torx head driver and ratchet & attach the two metal soft top brackets to the sport bar
  10. Take the #50 Torx head driver and ratchet & install the rear retainers on each side of the rear vehicle
  11. On the soft top, make sure the lift assist mechanism is in the lock position and the hook-and-lock fastener straps are secured around the linkage
  12. With the help of another person, lift the soft top into the rear of the vehicle (side links pointing toward the front)
  13. Lower the lift assist mechanism onto the soft top brackets on both sides of the sport bar
  14. Take the #40 Torx head driver and ratchet & tighten the Torx screws by turning them clockwise until snug (on each side)
  15. Pull the release lever on the top of the rail toward the back and place the side link into the guide track on the top of the rail & release the lever
  16. Raise the soft top and close it all the way
  17. Secure Windows on Jeep Wrangler Soft Top

  18. On the inside, pull the header latch handle down until the hook engages its receiver and lock the latch
  19. Slide back windows into the bar, guide the top onto the retainer, and slide it forward
  20. Place the top of the quarter window pillar into the top cover and insert the bottom tab into the clip
  21. Attach the retainers along the front of the window and the bottom (Repeat on the other side)
  22. Keep the rear window level as you guide it through the retainer from left to right
  23. Slide the swing gate bar from left to right into the retainers bottom window
  24. Rotate the swing gate bar inward into the left- and right-side retainers
  25. Engage the plastic retainers along the passenger side of the rear windows to the quarter window pillar
  26. Engage the rear window retainers in the lower right and left corners
