Batteries Are Included…But Occasionally Need Replacing.

These days, with everyone being connected, vehicle batteries are stressed more than ever before. MP3 Players, GPS receivers, smartphones and tablets are all doing their part to shorten your Northlake Chrysler, Jeep, Ram and Dodge's battery life. Under the best conditions they are expected to work well for approximately four years. In warmer temperatures, expect even less than that.

The battery inside your new Northlake Chrysler, Dodge Jeep and Ram is a vital piece of equipment that seemingly holds sway over every other part of your car. You see, if there is not enough amperage in the battery to start the engine, your car is as useful as a large paperweight. It will certainly be a stylish paperweight, but a paperweight, nonetheless.

There are several important factors to remember when buying batteries:

•    Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): The ability to start the car at 0-degrees Fahrenheit, when the oil is at its thickest. We know how we get on a cold winter morning. Imagine what your Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep feels like after spending the night outside in the freezing cold. In an effort to find the best battery for your needs, consider the higher the CCA rating, the better the battery's starting power.

•    Age: Best when bought within six months of manufacture, most batteries will have a date code to tell you this information. Ask your Northlake Service Advisor to verify the date of manufacturing for this new battery.

•    Group Size: Literally the footprint of the battery, along with placement of the battery terminals. Each type of battery size has a slightly different terminal placement. Care should be taken to make this an "apple to apple" equation. When in doubt, check with your Northlake Service Advisor who will make sure you are getting the right sized battery for your vehicle.

•    Reserve Capacity: In the case of an alternator failure, the Reserve Capacity lets you know just how long your vehicle can run on battery power alone. That would be in a situation where the engine is off but the car's electric functions are working in Accessory Mode, or if the alternator or one of its belts should fail. The higher the rating, the longer your battery will work without the benefit of the alternator.

Another important factor in this scenario is that of deep-cycle discharging, which tells how much charging power will remain after the battery has been almost completely discharged. The lack of alternator can deplete the battery's charging ability to the point it may never become fully recharged again.

Speaking of the alternator, your Northlake Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram service department has the equipment to check the health of your alternator. We recommend having it checked every time you change your oil.
